Today, the first of December marks the end of my Thai language career/venture/whatever. It's already the first of December! I didn't even realise nor felt it, until i watched the news and they were reporting on World Aids Day. But even that wasn't the thing that made me realise, i just thought World Aids Day is coming and they are just reporting in advance. It was actually friendster birthday reminders that jerked me, December has arrived! Oh gosh, time really flies, especially when you are having exams, not. But it's so weird/silly that in the midst of our exams we have locked ourselves in this time warp that we countdown our days by papers and not by dates.
Back to Thai. The paper today was __________. For the essay question, they just had to give us this alien word which most of us have not ever come across in our entire Thai journey. The only vague clue was the word appearing in the comprehension passage, which i didn't know what a quarter of it was about, which may i add they didn't give helping words (which they always do!). Anyways when i saw the essay question, i was thrown into a state of panic firstly, then secondly i started to feel angry, at why of all words and of all times they had to put an alien word when they could have just made our lives simpler by giving a very normal (and familiar) word (?!) And finally as moments ticked nearer to the end, i started to feel helpless, praying (very) desperately that i somehow inferred the correct meaning and my essay wasn't 550 degrees off tangent, which i have a bad track record for inferrence.
The rest of the paper was fine.
Of course, there was a tinge of sadness leaving this whole world of Thai. It's not like i would never speak Thai again, but learning it is a whole different thing. The laughter, the struggles, the equally kan cheong friends, the always smiling ?aacaans (always teasing phuu chaays), seeing these people three times a week (more than i see my dog, if i had one). i'm gonna miss this world. ฉันจะคิดถึงมากมากๆ.
ขอบคุณพระเจ้า. Thank the Lord, i could never have begun, done and ended this without Him.
This song by James Blunt is playing in my head now.
Goodbye my lover. Goodbye my friend.
You have been the one. You have been the one for me.
So dramatic.
