After parting with Michelle at Far East, i had the sudden urge to take 105 to Toa Payoh. Yes yes dear friends, i know you have heard me reminisce about my lao3 jia1 a gazillion times. haha. Even though i boast that i know that place like the back of my hand, i was shocked to see some new developments today which have sneaked past me.
I had the sudden impulse to cut my irritating - never neat and nice - hair. This led to me wanting to go to Hair etc., the most regular hairdresser i visited in the past, which is not very regular too, went there about 3 or 4 times. Anyways i was shocked to see the shop expanded to 2 shop spaces and it looks super professional now, with a whole crowd of customers! I wowed at the success that little shop had gained from its humble beginnings, and gave a silent applause in my heart haha. Not wanting to wait, i walked on to find a normal cheap hairdresser. But, as i walked on, all of them look super class and posh, like seriously. I was dying to find one small low profile hairdresser with an auntie (yes i still prefer females), but noooo, none at all, zilch. Globalisation! Commodification! Modernisation! What have they done to the humble shops in a humble town. So finally, i pushed the doors of a middle class one.
The hairdresser that attended to me was pretty, and nice. Gave me a lot of comments on my hair. And i realise i always say the same thing to all of the hairdressers- too little hair, too bian3, always tangle, very messy, oily scalp but dry hair. And hairdressers always say different things to me, which i have not heeded because they confuse me more than advise me. Everything was going fine, when she suddenly commented that, she felt that there was a layer of something on my hair, and asked me if i felt it. And i said don't know, thinking how would i know when i touch only my hair. Ok fine my sis just came in and said my hair looks weird, whatever. Back to the hairdresser. So she said it felt like "la4" on my hair. What is la4?! I thought to myself. Sounds like lard, which is fatty oily and disgusting. I sighed. She elaborated again saying it felt like there was a layer of something on my hair which makes it heavy. I cried out desperately, "na4 ge4 dong1 xi1 shi4 she3 me4?!" And she said like "la4" again. So i have been living with la4 on my hair for i don't know how long. My hair world came crumbling down. She gave the parallel of Gatsby that men use, and if they use it for too long, there will be a thick layer of that something formed on their hair, and it would not go away by washing. Sighs. Me and my hair are demoralised. Plus a big hollow in my pocket after buying those hair products after being thoroughly frightened by her and that unknown layer of being on my hair. Sighs! la4 shmla4!
I am going on a Little India field trip tommorow. I'm excited because i like field trips but im not looking forward to it because i have no company, so i hope it pours tomorrow morning haha.
