Im back from vietnam :]
jinny commented on the 'rustic beauty' of the place, while i think it has a 'quaint kind of charm'.
oh I would like to put up photos, but i can't for the moment. And would want to avoid explaning the technicalities.
I like:
- pho. the beef noodles, and especially the loads of towgay in it. i cant imagine why anyone would not like towgay.
- coffee and the coffee house. its really a knockout. the taste is so strong, but deliciously strong. even me a mild coffee lover, loves it. the coffee house is quaintly pretty, with the dim lighting and semi private sitting areas.
- tam, my vietnamese friend. she's the coolest girl ive seen, at least for the time in vietnam. i totally like her sense of responsibility and her aura of ruggedness, coolness and steadiness. this is the new feminity man. im totally over sweet domestic feminity, this is more edgy. she has the cutest eight year old sister too, who smiles and talks like a doll. i would pay to take her home.
- the beaches. at Rach Gia (pronounced rage-gaya by Jinny haha!, but 'rak yeah' by the vietnamese.) and Ha Tien (pronounced 'hey-something'). even the way they pronounced things are in a 'chill out' way. we watched the sunset and sunrise there! the purple and pink rays bounced nicely off the low lying clouds.
- mekong river and delta. finally get to see the real thing after always seeing it pop up in textbooks!
- the traffic. i still would not dare to cross the street alone, but i like how the motorbikes move together like a squad of flies. and how the traffic would swerve gracefully to avoid the people crossing. such a nice pattern.
- long bus rides. i really like those long and bumpy ones we took. i felt like i could sit on them forever. of course with many toiliet stops in between would be more ideal. we had to hold our pee for very long, so we didnt drink very much and i got a sorethroat on day three. we spent more time travelling in mekong than being at one place.
- conversations between vietnamese. they seem to hit it off with anyone anywhere. i wish i knew singaporeans this way too.
- motorcycle moments. riding undeneath the stars and into the sunrise, on almost deserted roads. so romantic. i wouldn't mind marrying a biker and being in that moment for the rest of my life.
